Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days – review

Directed by a British film-maker with credits on such animated works as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Chicken Run and Flushed Away, this live-action comedy is the third film based on a series of popular American children's books about the adventures of Greg, a middle-class Californian high school lad. It's Tom Sawyer for the age of video games, a scrappy, anecdotal affair built around the summer holiday as Greg battles with his brothers, pursues girls seemingly above his station and tries to please his sad, dreamy dad (the always engaging Steve Zahn).
