Diarmuid Connolly must make the choice to come back to Dublin, says Jim Gavin

Dublin manager Jim Gavin is refusing to rule out a return for Diarmuid Connolly to Dublin's championship panel this summer.

His side's drive for five would surely be boosted by a comeback for the ultra-talented Connolly, who spent last summer in the United States.

Kilmacud Crokes man Rory O'Carroll was added to the squad this week following his return from New Zealand, and while Gavin says there will be more additions, he is keeping his cards close to his chest in regards to Connolly, except to say that he hadn't yet been brought back into the camp.

Asked at today's Leinster championship launch at Baldonnell Aerodrome if the St Vincent's star could feature for the Blues in the coming months, Gavin replied: “That’s the same for every player.

"If they play consistently well for their clubs and want to play with the county and make a choice - because it is a choice – then we’re interested.

“So it’s a choice that players make, and I need to respect those choices - and I hope you do, too.”

When quizzed on the last time he had spoken to Connolly, Gavin remarked: “I’m in conversation with a lot of players who aren’t on the squad. There’s ongoing conversations with a whole host of players.

“Over the coming week, we’ll be inviting players in that have never represented the Dublin senior football team before, into our training, because they have performed consistently well in the club leagues and the club championship".
