Jim Gavin congratulated Diarmuid Connolly on a job well done after making a winning return to Dublin colours yesterday.
Making his first Championship start in over two years, the 32-year-old scored a point in the victory over Tyrone and played like he’d never been away, though he did pick up a black card for dragging down Tyrone defender Ciaran McLaughlin.
When asked how he rated Connolly’s big comeback, the Dublin boss replied: “I just said, ‘Well done’.
“I thought he did very well for us. He did well for the team and that’s what we expect from our players and he did that to the nth degree.”
Sean Bugler sparkled on his first Championship start and could see more game time when the ‘drive for five’ bid cranks up a gear in the All-Ireland semi-final clash with Mayo on Saturday (5pm).
Connolly, who was expected to spend a second successive summer in America before rejoining the squad recently, should also feature.
“I think Diarmuid loves Dublin and we love him. Circumstances change for all players,” added Gavin (inset).
“They volunteer their time and we’re delighted he played really well for the team.
“Collectively every player played their part and we’re focusing on next weekend.”
Dublin have a clean bill of health ahead of the semi-finals weekend while Tyrone have doubts over Michael Cassidy (hip) and Richie Donnelly (ankle) ahead of their clash with Kerry on Sunday (3.30).
