Dianne Oxberry’s husband on the her ‘bright and cheerful’ nature as memorial garden is revealed

The husband of weather presenter Dianne Oxberry spoke about his late wife’s ‘bright and cheerful’ nature as plans to create a garden in her memory were revealed.

Ian Hindle spoke after it was announced a sunshine garden will be built at the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park this summer to honour the North West Tonight broadcaster.

It is being designed by the award-winning ‘Garden Ninja’, aka Lee Burkhill, and its theme will aim to mirror Dianne’s ‘warm and sunny disposition’ that ‘lit up so many lives’.

The garden will then go on to be donated to a cancer charity as part of a BBC North West Tonight competition.

Dianne, 51, died from ovarian cancer in January this year.

Ian said: “Creating the sunshine garden in honour of Dianne is absolutely fantastic because that’s who she was on the telly and also at home, she was always bright and cheerful and even when she had to deliver the worst weather bulletins, she still did it with a smile on her face.

“The outdoors is where Dianne really thrived, she enjoyed going for walks with the dogs, or riding a horse or just going out with the family. The sunshine garden is a fantastic tribute to her and will hopefully brighten up the lives of everybody but especially those who might be suffering from cancer.”

Cancer charities across the North West are being invited to apply to win the garden once the flower show comes to a close.

The chosen charity will also be given the chance to help build the guarden at the event this July, working alongside Lee.

The competition launches today at 6.30pm and is open until 7pm on Friday, May 31. The winner will be announced on Friday, June 14 during the 6.30pm programme.

To enter, email nwtgarden@bbc.co.uk to provide more information about their organisation and how the NWT garden will benefit people affected by cancer.
