Diana's statue unveiling is 'make or break' for Harry and William, author claims

The unveiling of the Princess Diana statue could be a make or break moment for William and Harry's fractured relationship, a royal author claims.

The brothers have been on frosty terms since early 2020, when Prince Harry delivered the bombshell that he was quitting the royal family and moving to the US with American wife Meghan Markle.

Duncan Larcombe, author of Prince Harry: The Inside Story, told OK Magazine : "Their late mother's statue unveiling will be make or break for them.

"It's something they've both plotted as brothers for three years and something they have spoken about wanting since Diana's passing in 1997.

"If the brothers can't put their feud aside on the day they honour their mother, it's fair to say that the damage will only ever be repaired with time - and even then there's no guarantee."

The brothers' relationship deteriorated even further this year after Harry and Meghan made a number of damaging claims against the royal family in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Harry accused his brother of being "trapped", and Meghan revealed that William's wife Kate had made her cry in a row over flower girl dresses.

Meghan also said concerns were raised by a royal family member about how "dark" Archie's skin might be before he was born. She refused to name the family member.

Harry arrived in the UK from the US last week to isolate ahead of the statue unveiling on Thursday - which would have been her 60th birthday.

Designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, it is said to depict a "youthful" Princess of Wales, who was just 36 when she died in 1997.

It is believed that Harry is carrying out his quarantine at Frogmore Cottage where he and and Meghan lived after they got married until they quit the UK.

The 36-year-old will have to isolate for five days until he can do a "test to release", which will allow him to leave self-isolation, providing who gets a negative result.

Details about the statue unveiling have been announced by Kensington Palace, who said it will be a “small event.”

A statement shared on Twitter by royal author Omid Scobie read: “Prince William and Prince Harry will attend a small event to mark the unveiling of a statue they commissioned of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace on Thursday 1st July.

"In addition to close family of Diana, Princess of Wales, members of the statue committee, the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley, and garden designer, Pip Morrison, will also be present."

The feuding siblings will get together for a private chat on Thursday after the event.

The pair are set to spend time together for the first time since Prince Philip's funeral in April, with insiders hoping they can clear the air.
