Diana Ross confirms first ever Glastonbury Festival appearance in 'legends' slot

It’s official: The Supremes star Diana Ross will perform at Glastonbury festival for the first time next year.

The Mirror told last week how the legendary 77-year-old was “answering the call” to return to the UK next summer - and had left a telltale gap in her Thank You tour schedule over the festival next June.

She had originally been due to play the festival’s popular legends slot on Sunday afternoon during the event’s 50th anniversary in 2020, which was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Diana says: "I'm so excited and grateful to finally know, that I'll be seeing you at Glastonbury while on my UK Thank U Tour celebrating my new album of songs, Sunday, June 26, 2022."

Festival boss Emily Eavis said: “I’m thrilled to be able to let you know that the magnificent Diana Ross is coming to play at Glastonbury next summer.

“We were so excited to book such a legend for Glastonbury 2020 and are so happy that she’s the first to re-confirm for next year.”

With Taylor Swift rumoured to be a “re-confirmed” act next year, it could be telling that Emily points out Diana is the “first” of the 2020 lineup to sign up for next year...

Adele has been suggested to be another headline act contender, which would make an all female lineup with Billie Eilish confirmed to headline on Friday night.

But Sir Paul McCartney - who was also due to perform in 2020 - and Sir Elton John are also suggested to appear down at Worthy Farm.

Diana said last week she was looking forward to taking her Thank You tour on the road next June.

“The audiences are really the exciting part for me in the show,” said Diana - whose back catalogue includes I’m Coming Out, Endless Love and You Can’t Hurry Love with the Supremes. “There is always a connection that I feel when I am on stage. I love being able to look out and see the faces.

“When you’re watching me, I’m also watching you.

“Everything is really about give and take. It’s you and me. It’s us together. It’s never me by myself. My musicians with me are my family away from home. It’s such a blessing this work.”

Diana, who has sold 100 million records worldwide, released new single I Feel Blessed last week, and also stars in her first music video for over a decade for another track All is Well.

The Mirror revealed she was inspired to record her first new album in 15 years, also titled Thank You, after reading inspirational quotes from Winnie the Pooh.

“I am so excited to be on stage again – the energy you feel, being able to communicate with an audience,” continues Diana. “The magic lifts me. I actually feel as if I am levitating, floating out into the room, close to the people.

“I love performing all the songs I select. I love watching the audience.”
