Diana Ross confirmed for Glastonbury 2022 legends slot

Diana Ross has confirmed that she will play the 'legends' slot at the 2022 Glastonbury Festival - two years after she was originally meant to appear.

The 77-year-old singer - who has just released Thank You, her first full album of original material for over 20 years - will perform at the event on Sunday, June 26.

Ross said: "I’m so excited and grateful to finally know, that I’ll be seeing you at Glastonbury while on my UK Thank U Tour celebrating my new album of songs."

The star, who has enjoyed a string of number one hits both as a solo act and with Motown group The Supremes, is also playing in Manchester, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham, London and Cornwall's Eden Project next year.

Festival organiser Emily Eavis said: "I’m thrilled to be able to let you know that the magnificent @DianaRoss is coming to play at @glastonbury next summer.

"We were so excited to book such a legend for Glastonbury 2020 and are so happy that she’s the first to re-confirm for next year."

A message on Glastonbury's official Twitter channel said: "We are thrilled to announce that @DianaRoss will play the Sunday legends slot on the Pyramid Stage at #Glastonbury2022."

The festival was to mark its 50th anniversary in 2020, but the celebrations were cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift and Sir Paul McCartney were due to be on the bill as well as Ross.

Earlier this year, the festival hosted a five-hour livestream featuring Coldplay, Damon Albarn, Haim, Idles, Jorja Smith, Kano, Michael Kiwanuka, Wolf Alice, DJ Honey Dijon and more.

Glastonbury will take place from June 22, with Billie Eilish already having been confirmed as a headliner.
