Diana Ross at Glastonbury - BBC to show legend a couple of hours late

Armchair Glastonbury revellers watching the action from Worthy Farm on BBC1 and BBC 2 were left a little bit baffled when Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney's headline set wasn't shown for around an hour after it started - and the same thing is happening this afternoon with the Sunday teatime 'legend's slot' filled this year by Diana Ross.

The former Supreme is taking to the Pyramid Stage in real life at 4pm today, Sunday, and the set is scheduled to last for more than an hour - until 5.15pm.

But the BBC won't be showing Diana Ross's set on BBC1 on cath-up until 6.45pm, although they are showing it in full on the broadcaster's flagship channel from 6.45pm to 8pm. And you can watch it live on BBC iPlayer as it's happening.

However, there IS still a way to see Glastonbury live and as it happens. The Beeb has a dedicated Glastonbury channel on the red button, with viewers given the option of choosing which of the five main stages to follow the action from live - the Pyramid, Other Stage, West Holts, John Peel and Park Stages.

When viewers complained that Sir Paul's Saturday headline set was not being broadcast on BBC1 until an hour after it started, a spokesperson for the BBC said that was due to 'complexities' of covering such a huge event.

The BBC said in a statement: “This year we are delighted to bring audiences our most extensive coverage of Glastonbury to date. Paul McCartney’s much-anticipated set was broadcast on BBC One at 10.30pm as well as on Radio 2 and will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.

“Due to the complexity of broadcasting an event of this scale and the volume of performances we cover, there is sometimes variation between performances taking place and their transmission.”
