Diamondbacks player confidently smiles mid-pitch before hitting a home run

Eduardo Escobar and Brian Dozier were teammates with the Minnesota Twins, but now on new teams, the two players were in a scenario that they probably never expected:

Facing each other as a hitter and pitcher.

During the eighth inning of Saturday’s game between the Diamondbacks and Nationals, Dozier (a second baseman) was brought in to pitch and preserve the bullpen in a blowout. While some position players can light up the radar gun in pitching appearances, Dozier was topping out just shy of 70 mph.

That brought up a confident Escobar to plate as he faced his former teammate. You could see as Escobar had a huge grin just before he pulled a 68 mph pitch for a three-run home run.

Here’s a closer look:

Yeah, Escobar totally knew he was hitting a home run there. Dozier himself couldn’t hold back the laughter either.

The Diamondbacks would win, 18-7, and Dozier somehow got out of that inning.
