Diablo 4 Season 1 start date to be revealed next week teases Activision Blizzard boss

Diablo 4 players will find out next week when Season 1 will begin, according to the series' general manager.

Following the launch of Diablo 4's latest major update, update 1.0.3, earlier this week, players are now clamouring to find out when Diablo 4 Season 1 will officially begin, and according to Diablo's general manager Rod Fergusson, they won't have wait too much longer to find out.

Fergusson replied to a tweet earlier today, with a Twitter user asking him to announce when Season 1 will begin, with the general manager responding with "Announcing next week!". And if that wasn't enough, Diablo's global community development director Adam Fletcher also set tongues wagging on the same platform, with Fletcher stating "more news on that later this week" when asked when we can expect another dev update or campfire chat.

This means Diablo 4 players can expect a dev update next week, which is usually presented in the form of a campfire chat live stream, which will be officially announced by Blizzard later this week. In this said dev update, it's pretty clear that players can expect to finally get a confirmed start date for Diablo 4 Season 1. The development team have previously stated that the first season will drop sometime in "mid-July" but has stayed silent on giving players a hard date.

Despite the new patch going live earlier this week, there are still a fair few bugs for players to contend with in Diablo 4, not least the Fury Against Fate bug, which makes a long questline pretty much impossible to complete. But despite the bugs, and the ongoing mystery about a secret cow level, the ARPG has been a smash hit for Blizzard, with Diablo 4 estimated to have sold between 4 and 5 million copies since it launched at the beginning of this month.

The game's success is sure to please Microsoft too, as it fights to complete its proposed $68.7 billion Microsoft Activision deal, which is currently in federal court thanks to legal action by the FTC. In theory, if Activision Blizzard had already been absorbed into the Xbox family, there's a chance that Diablo 4 would have hit Xbox Game Pass on day one. Fortunately, the game has been a rollicking success without it, primed for a successful first season of content next month.
