Diabetic alert dog Korey's sense of smell is so strong it helps save lives of owners

Service dogs come in all shapes and sizes and perform a wide range of tasks to aid their owners, and this diabetic alert dog is no different.

Korey, who operates as a service dog for his diabetic owner, monitors her blood sugar levels and lets his owner know when they are too high, as shown in this cute video.

The clip, which was posted by TikTok user @koreythekanine, was a massive hit on the app, with over 60,000 views and over 17,000 likes.

The video shows how Korey reacts when he realises that his owner’s blood sugar levels are high, something he has been trained to do.

Diabetic alert dogs are trained to recognise the difference between certain scents and use their heightened sense of smell in order to detect whether a person’s blood sugar is high or low.

Korey shows these skills in practice in the clip, by detecting his owner’s high blood sugar levels and alerting her by getting her attention by spinning in a circle and staring at her.

Viewers were clearly impressed by Korey’s training, with one user commenting: “Such a good baby! Love him!”

Another commenter wrote: “What a lucky lady to have such a beautiful angel watching over you.”

A third added: “Amazing - we don’t deserve dogs.”
