MUMBAI, India — Bollywood director Rajkumar Hirani’s comedy-drama film “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” completed 15 years on Sept. 1, 2021.
Bollywood actress Dia Mirza, who played the role of Simran Singh in the film, took to her Twitter handle to share her experience of working in “Lage Raho Munna Bhai.”
“A film like ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ always remains relevant because of its theme,” she tweeted.
“It is very rare that a film addresses really complicated societal issues in such a simple yet profound way. The questions that the film tackled in 2006 are still meaningful. @RajkumarHirani @VVCFilms.”

“Lage Raho Munna Bhai” is the sequel to “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.” (2003), which starred Sanjay Dutt, Vidya Balan, Arshad Warsi, and Boman Irani in lead roles. The movie had set a trend of “Gandhigiri” among the audiences. Abhishek Bachchan had a cameo in the movie. He played the role of Mirza’s husband.
Separately, Mirza also took a stroll down memory lane.
“I played a young girl who has been weighed down by the superstition that she is a ‘Manglik’ and unpropitious,” she said.
“Her honesty and the way the conflict in her life is resolved on the day she is getting married is, in a way, a powerful summation of the theme of the film. It basically asks us to not lose sight of each other’s humanity.”

“Lage Raho Munna Bhai,” which was produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, won several awards, including National Award for “Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment,” “Best Supporting Actor,” “Best Screenplay,” and “Best Lyrics” in 2007.
The storyline of “Lage Raho Munna Bhai” is centered around Munna Bhai (played by Dutt), a local goon who uses Gandhi’s non-violence teachings, “Gandhigiri,” to fight a corrupt property dealer and help people solve their problems.
On the film front, Mirza, who was last seen in Ahishor Solomon’s action-crime film “Wild Dog,” will next be seen in Yogendra Singh’s “Kabhi Bhi Kahin Bhi,” and Sanjay Gupta’s “Alibaug.”
