KOLHAPUR: BJP state president Chandrakant Patil on Monday said newly elected Rajya Sabha MP Dhananjay Mahadik will lead the party in western Maharashtra.
Speaking in Kolhapur, Patil said the Mahadiks have their own support base in Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Satara and Pune rural.
“He (Mahadik) should not limit himself to just Kolhapur city or district, but should ensure that the party’s base is expanded across the region,” Patil said.
Patil also took at dig at the MVA-led state government stating that all the development work started by the BJP government between 2014 and 2019 have been stalled.
“Since the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government came to power, the projects we initiated have been stalled. The MVA ministers from Kolhapur are arrogant. They trouble our party workers and stall development works. I hope Mahadik will pose a challenge to them and ensure no party worker is troubled by them,” he said.
Basket bridge will be constructed: Mahadik
Meanwhile, Mahadik had proposed an idea of constructing a basket bridge at the entry to Kolhapur city to avoid congestion of vehicles when he was an NCP MP.
In 2019, the opposition had campaigned against him stating he made a false promise and this led to him losing the Lok Sabha elections.
“A basket bridge will definitely be constructed. Funds were approved for it and tender was floated. The opposition led false narratives against me, but what have they done for the district. I was the one who managed to connect Kolhapur airport to five destinations. I used to take monthly meeting with railway authorities. Now, the Kolhapur railway station has also been degraded,” Mahadik said.
