Dexter will resume his slaying ways in 2021 revival on Showtime

Michael C. Hall plays the title serial killer on “Dexter” in 2006. | Showtime

Americans have a year to secure their doors and train their watchdogs before the serial killer Dexter returns next fall.

Showtime said Wednesday that Dexter Morgan, the murderer known for his deadpan quips and creative executions, will be back in 2021 for a 10-episode limited series.

Michael C. Hall will step back into the title role, guided again by Clyde Phillips, a longtime executive producer of “Dexter.”

“This breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” said Gary Levine, Showtime’s co-president of entertainment. “We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!”

Hall won five consecutive Emmy nominations for his work as Dexter, whose day job was analyzing blood spatters at crime scenes for the Miami police department. The 2006-2013 series’ eight seasons are available for streaming on Showtime’s on-demand platforms.
