Dexter: New Blood release date and cast as popular series returns on Sky Atlantic

The eagerly awaited return of Dexter is finally almost here and viewers are being treated to a 10-part series called Dexter: New Blood.

Fans should note that it is not the ninth season, but a revival of the show and character.

The show's synopsis says: "Now living in self-imposed exile under a new name, Dexter is doing everything to forget the man he once was.

"But how long can he run away from his past? And his own urges?”

While fans were left feeling disappointed by the original show's ending, the revival is set to make up for it.

So, read on to find out who can you expect to see in Dexter: New Blood and when you can watch it.

When is the Dexter: New Blood release date and how to watch?

Dexter: New Blood is set to be released on Monday, November 8, at 10pm on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW TV.

While the US will be getting each of the 10 episodes every Sunday, from Sunday, November 7, British fans of the show will have to wait an extra day and watch the show on Mondays.

Who is in the Dexter: New Blood cast?

Michael C Hall will be reprising his role of Dexter Morgan for the new 10-part series, who now identifies as Jim Lindsay.

He'll be joined by fellow former cast member Jennifer Carpenter, who continues to play Dexter's sister Debray Morgan.

If you're confused about how she's reappeared, she'll be taking the place of Dexter's adoptive father and talking to Dexter through his inner monologue.

And, back again for the new series is Arthur Mitchell or 'The Trinity Killer', who is still played by John Lithgow.

He previously killed Dexter's wife (Julie Benz) in a dark blood-filled bathroom scene. It mirrored that of Dexter's childhood trauma, as the couple's toddler son was left in the bathroom to witness his mother's murder and death.

New additions to the cast's line-up include The Shawshank Redemption's Clancy Brown, the Twilight saga's Julia Jones, Underground's Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah from TV series Believe, Apple TV+'s The Morning Show star David Magidoff, Manchester by the Sea's Oscar Wahlberg and Gifted's Jamie Chung.

How did the original series of Dexter end?

The original series of Dexter was slated for its ending in 2013 and this has since been acknowledged by Michael C Hall, himself.

He said of the show: "Let's be real: people found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there's always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling.

"I include myself in the group of people that wondered, 'What the hell happened to that guy?'"

The series finale aired on September 22, 2013, and ended with Dexter faking his own death so he could live a life of solitude as a lumberjack in Oregon.

This followed a series of unfortunate events, including Dexter's sister being shot and killed by psychopath Oliver Saxon, for which he blamed himself.

He also made a final call to the love of his life Hannah McKay, a fellow serial killer, and his young son Harrison.

He came to the realisation that everyone close to him was always destined to an ill-fated end, so he drove his boat into a hurricane, leading everyone to believe he had died.
