Deworming campaign in Uttar Pradesh: Over 27 lakh to get medicines

NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: More than 27 lakh children in both Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar will be given Albendazole tablets for deworming on July 28. Officials said while 6.91 lakh children up to the age of 19 years have been identified in GB Nagar, over 20.17 lakh children will be covered in Ghaziabad under the National Deworming Day campaign.

According to Ghaziabad officials, 2,015 schools have been identified, along with 1,373 anganwadi centres, for the deworming campaign. Meanwhile, in GB Nagar, the medicines will be available at 1,108 Anganbadi centres and 746 government and private schools. Along with students, teachers and Anganwadi workers will also take the medicines. If some children get left out on July 27, a second round between August 1 and August 3 will cover the target set for each district. Doctors said deworming treatment is significant in reducing overall malnutrition among children.
