Devoted wife surprises husband by moving into his care home so they can be together

This is the moment devoted Betty Meredith surprises husband Kenneth, revealing she has moved into his care home, unable to live without him.

Kenneth, 96, who had to go into the home five weeks ago due to worsening dementia, walked through the door and broke down in tears when he saw Betty, 91.

His wife of 71 years was sitting at a table decorated with heart balloons and roses as The Platters’ 1954 hit Only You played in the background.

They shared a long hug after spending five weeks apart. They were heartbroken after Kenneth moved into Bourn View Care Home in Birmingham.

Betty was unable to visit due to coronavirus restrictions and missed him so much she asked if she could be moved into the care home too.

She had to isolate after moving into the floor below Kenneth, and never revealed where she was as she phoned him as usual for their daily chats.

Care worker Rosie Boshell, 24, who helped arrange their reunion celebrations, said: “Ken was in bits. He ran towards her.

"He was over the moon. Afterwards Betty took Ken to show him their new room.

"He couldn’t believe she was moving in and now had the same room.

"Every time I went to see them they were just smiling.

"They’re just so happy.”

The couple’s great granddaughter Charlotte post a video of their reunion.

She wrote: “My actual heart.”
