Devoted West Lothian couple celebrate diamond wedding anniversary

Congratulations to devoted West Lothian couple Jim and Betty Wright, who celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

The couple, who are both 79, met at Whitburn Miners Welfare and were married 60 years ago at the town’s Brucefield Church.

They went on to have three children and now have six grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren.

Before retiring Jim was a forklift driver at General Motors and Betty worked as an auxiliary nurse at Tippethill Hospital and later St John’s Hospital.

Their daughter Marion Frame said her dad enjoyed gardening, especially after he retired, and her mum was a keen painter.

She said they both liked going on holidays and going away drives in the car and spending time with family.

Marion said her mum moved into Crofthead Care Home in Fauldhouse about two years ago and her dad continues to live in Whitburn.

She said the couple remain “devoted” to each other after all this time.

Marion said: “Before Covid dad would visit mum every day, sometimes twice a day, and we said to him he needs to slow down and let us visit her.

“After all this time they were just the same and devoted to each other.”

Jim and Betty enjoyed a lovely celebration surrounded by the family organised by the staff at Crofthead Nursing Home.
