Devoted nurse to receive 'guard of honour' at funeral after 40-year career

Tributes have been paid to a nurse who will be remembered for her "smile" after she died at just 57-years-old.

Elaine Stewart was a much-loved nurse at Southport Hospital, as well as a Brownie leader and Scout leader.

She dedicated her life to helping others and spent nearly 40 years of her life supporting young people.

The devoted nurse died earlier this year on February 15 with her funeral service being held yesterday at Southport Crematorium.

Members of Guides were invited to attend the funeral in their uniforms, with the family organising a guard of honour for the former leader.

Speaking ahead of the funeral, a family spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elaine Stewart.

“She was a nurse at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust and worked with St John Ambulance for many years.

“Elaine was a well-known Brownie Guide leader at 60th Southport Brownies for 35 years.

“She was also Pack Holiday Advisor and Deputy Commissioner in Guiding.

“She also in later years helped out with Scouts.

“Elaine will be remembered by many girls in Southport for her smile and her many, many pack holidays.

“If any current guiding members would like to wear their uniforms we would like to send her off with a guard of honour.”
