A devoted dog lover shelled out more than £11,000 for an elaborate drone display to mark her pet's 10th birthday.
The woman rented 520 devices, which spelt out the words "Happy 10th birthday to Doudou" to mark the pooch's big day.
It happened in central China’s Hunan province - but authorities were none too impressed.
The lavish display, which cost 100,000 yuan - the equivalent of £11,542 - was carried out in violation of no-fly zones, meaning the drones were at risk of being shot down.
As the message lit up the sky, the unnamed woman and her pals sang Happy Birthday to Doudou.
The drones also formed patterns showing a birthday cake and a box containing a bone.
According to the South China Morning Post, the generous owner chose to have 520 drones because the number's pronunciation in Mandarin sounds similar to "I love you".
Spoiled dog Doudou was pictured watching on mystified as the unusual celebration unfolded.
But an official told the newspaper that his owner should have obtained permission before the drones took to the skies.
The spot, close to the Xiangjiang River in Changsha, is home to a number of high-rise buildings, with a strict no-fly zone in place for security.
Police have said they shoot down drones if they are spotted, but in this instance they seem to have not noticed until Doudou's celebration was over.
