Devoted dad and 'true gent' dies after feeling breathless and collapsing at home

A beloved dad "who would do anything for his family" died with suspected coronavirus after collapsing at home.

James McNulty, 43, was rushed to hospital after suddenly becoming breathless last month.

His condition, suspected to be Covid-19, deteriorated and he was put into an induced coma, reports Liverpool Echo.

And the father-of-two died on April 23, leaving his young family heartbroken.

Paying tribute today, brother-in-law Tim Gillam said Mr McNulty was a "true gentleman taken far too soon."

Neighbours and members of the community in Birkenhead, Merseyside, have rushed to support the devastated family, including Mr McNulty's two children; Connor, 20, and Hope, 19.

Mr McNulty's long-term partner Kelly Reading, 41, is also heartbroken.

Mr Gillam added: "He was a loving partner for over 20 years to Kelly. He was a true, loving and devoted family man who would do anything for his family that he and Kelly both made.

"He would walk the ends of the earth for his mother, who he loved dearly. He loved to go on errands on his trusted mountain bike.

"He was a quiet Taurus who would do anything for anyone, even if he was struggling himself."

Speaking to dad-of-two Mr McNulty directly, he added: "A true gentleman taken far too soon, but we now feel your presence whenever we enter a room. You had a big smile that would warm many hearts with love.

"Now the angels have you in their big house in the sky above."

Speaking about some of his interests, Mr Gillam said his brother-in-law was "very artistic" and talented and would "draw random drawings whatever came into his mind".

He added: "He just gave everything for his kids, his partner and his mother.

He would have helped anyone who needed it."

Despite the family being unable to have a large send-off for James because of social distancing rules, Mr Gillam said his relation "got his final wish" to have Bat Out of Hell, by Meat Loaf, played at his funeral.
