Former England fast bowler Devon Malcolm has spoken of his desire to become an international umpire.
Malcolm believes his experiences in international cricket would prepare him perfectly for the increasingly high-profile role. "I feel a lot of umpires have not come across the real pressure before because they have not played at the highest level," he said. "They are not used to the criticism from the big crowds and the press.
"With that in mind I feel they should encourage more players who have played at the top level to become international umpires. In the past that has not happened."
Malcolm played 40 Tests for England, only Indian official Srinivas Venkataraghavan has umpired at Test level having played more international cricket, while only one of the International Cricket Council's present elite officials has played Test cricket.
