Devin McCourty says Patriots would welcome Rob Gronkowski back with open arms

Rob Gronkowski’s presence will be missed by the New England Patriots. We know that. But how would the team feel about him returning after seemingly missing all of the offseason workouts, along with any practices or games he might miss before making his return?

“We don’t know. We’ll see,” said safety Devin McCourty via Mark Daniels when asked how much this team would miss Gronkowski. “He looks like he’s having an awesome time on Instagram.”

McCourty was also asked how he would react to the former tight end coming out of retirement. New England’s team captain said he would welcome the future Hall-of-Famer back with open arms, according to NESN’s Doug Kyed.

Gronkowski’s potential comeback could lie heavily on not only his body feeling 100 percent, but also how persuasive his former teammates can be in convincing him to return to football.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio did say not too long ago that Brady making a plea to Gronkowski could be a “difference maker” in whether the tight end decides to return. It would make sense that support from his other former teammates would sway the pendulum as well.

McCourty’s response is likely identical to what the remainder of his teammates believes.
