Devin McCourty backs Brian Flores’ message about George Floyd protests

Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores was one of the first in the sports world to speak up after the death of George Floyd. Many fans, players, and coaches were appreciative of his message and willingness to speak up quickly.

Patriots safety Devin McCourty was one of them. On Sunday night, he spoke about how much Flores’ message meant to him on his “Double Coverage” podcast that he runs with his twin brother, Jason.

The brothers have voiced their opinions in regards to the nationwide movement that began last week following Floyd’s death. Over the past couple of days, they have put out positive messages via social media and allowed their voices to be heard

“He holds a position that falls right into that category (representing the NFL),” McCourty said of Flores, a former Patriots defensive assistant. “A position that as players, as people who watch football know — we need more black coaches, we need more black GMs, we need more people in that position. So, to see him be outspoken — and knowing him personally, he’s always been like that — to me was great to see.

“It’s about leading men,” McCourty continued. “It’s about men seeing the important things. We don’t just come to play football. We’re around each other, we mentor each other, we try to pour into each other. So, to see him go out there and make it public and say how he felt I thought was really good.”

Devin and his brother have always spoken up for what they believe in. In the process, they are trying their best to continue their roles as positive members of the community.
