Devin Haney says he would "never let a white boy beat him" after addressing talk of a showdown with lightweight rival Vasyl Lomachenko.

21-year-old Haney, undefeated in 24 professional fights, made the remarks in an interview with 78SPORTSTV, responding to a listener comment who urged him to ‘end the Loma hype’.

“I can tell you this – I will never lose to a white boy in my life,” Haney said. “I don’t care what nobody got to say. Listen, can’t no white boy beat me, I don’t care, on any day of the week. I fight a white boy like 10 times, I’m gonna beat him 10 times.”

Haney, a black fighter from California, and Lomachenko, a white fighter from Ukraine, both compete in the red-hot lightweight division.

Haney became the division’s WBC champion last November after beating Alfredo Santiago but has been made ‘champion in recess’ after suffering a shoulder injury that required surgery at the end of last year.

He is signed with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing.

Lomachenko holds the WBA and WBO titles and is widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, having won championships at three different weight classes having won Olympic gold in 2008 and 2012.
