Devin Bush reveals the Lions told him he’d play middle LB in Detroit

During a pre-draft event in Nashville, Michigan linebacker Devin Bush offered an interesting wrinkle that could play into the Detroit Lions’ draft ideas. Bush said the Lions told him during his local visit with the team that they envision him as a ‘Mike,’ or middle linebacker, in their defense.

“It was actually the Mike position, playing that position,” Bush said via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “That’s where I like to be, right in the middle.”

The Lions currently have Jarrad Davis, the team’s first-round pick in 2017, as the middle backer. However, Davis has shown the ability to play outside. Or the team can play the two together on the inside. Both have the versatility to play in coverage, or blitz, or attack against the run.

Bush is widely regarded as a potential top-10 pick. And while off-ball LB is not typically noted as a big need for the Lions, adding a dynamic player like Bush would certainly change the complexion of the Detroit defense.
