The Winnipeg Jets made it into town but they will not be playing the Devils Tuesday at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Faceoff had been scheduled for 7 p.m. but the NHL announced at 11:30 a.m. that the game has been "postponed due to the severe winter storm impacting the area."
The game has been rescheduled for March 28 at 7 p.m., which was the only date over the remaining schedules for both teams that matched up as a logical makeup date.
Ticket information regarding the postponement can be found on the Devils' team website.
The Devils had already canceled their morning skate. The Jets, who lost to the Predators, 5-4, in overtime on Monday night at Nashville, did manage to get into New Jersey via charter flight, landing around 1:30 a.m. They did not have a morning skate scheduled on a back-to-back game.
Typically, if the visiting team and the officials make it into town, every effort is made to play the game.
At the same time, other factors, such as whether playing the game will put arena workers or emergency personnel at risk, are factored in. The NHL remains in close communication with state officials as well as team officials to make the final decision.
And with a state of emergency declared in New Jersey, non-essential vehicles were not supposed to be on the road.
