Chief conductor Gundi Emilsson will lead the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra in delivering the villains of classical music for the "Infernal Love" concert at Mahidol University's Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, tomorrow at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm.
The repertoire will feature Mozart's rake Don Giovanni, star-crossed lovers Francesca and Paolo from Tchaikovsky's Francesca Da Rimini and Prateep Supharojn's marvellous new setting of the Ramayana.
Also fitting into the theme is the concerto selection, showcasing the devilish virtuosity of Wieniawski. His Violin Concerto No.1, Op 14 is as difficult as a piece as any for this instrument and requires extraordinary musical intelligence and athletic stamina. Taiwanese violin prodigy Yu-Chia Chiu, who won the first prize in the National Music Competition for Youth in Taiwan last year, will bring both to this rarely heard Romantic masterpiece.
The 12-year-old began learning violin at the age of three and performed solo Mozart's Violin Concerto No.1 when she was eight. She is currently a sixth-grader at the National Taipei University of Education Experimental Elementary School.
