Development underway on site of town's old police station

Construction work is under way on a new residential home which will replace a Nottinghamshire town's old police station.

The 70-bed home in Grantham Road, Bingham, will feature a new lounge, hair and beauty salon and cinema room alongside other communal areas.

The proposal for the project was put forward by Edwalton-based Charterpoint Senior Living and was given the green light by Rushcliffe Borough Council last year.

A ground-breaking ceremony has now taken place and it is anticipated the three-storey home will open next summer.

It will be operated by care home group HC-One, which already has another home in Bingham.

Charterpoint chief executive, Adrian Goose, said: “We are delighted to see work getting under way on site at our latest project

"This is an attractive, bespoke scheme which will offer first-class, modern care facilities.

“Charterpoint Senior Living is committed to creating quality developments in excellent locations and we look forward to seeing this facility come to fruition to provide specialist care in the local community.”

Liz Whyte, HC-One managing director, added: "At HC-One, we strive to be the first choice care home in every community for older people looking for the very best care and support, and for Colleagues looking to develop a long-term career delivering the kindest and highest quality care.

“This new state-of-the-art care home will complement our high-quality service at Beauvale Care Home, and enable us to employ 70 additional Colleagues to provide the kindest care to even more people in this community when the home opens next year.”

The latest proposal included a 34-space car park and residents' garden.

Contractor Lawrence Baker has been appointed to build the new facility.

A previous planning application for the site was made by LNT Care Developments in 2016, but it was refused because of its 'overbearing size' and lack of 'sufficient off-street care parking'.
