Development in agriculture sector should be felt at grassroots: Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy

VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy told officials to focus on agricultural infrastructure development projects for which the government is investing 16,320.83 crore.

The chief minister reviewed the progress of infrastructure projects in agriculture and allied sectors on Monday.

The chief minister said infrastructure development projects should be made available to farmers in every village. He also told the officials to encourage allied sectors in agriculture that provide additional income to farmers. He said changes must be felt at the grassroots level and added that construction of all structures, including warehouses, should be expedited.

He said there is a good demand for organic and natural farming products across the globe and farmers should take advantage of these opportunities.

The chief minister said a custom hiring centre for organic farming should be set up at every RBK by next year and directed officials to create awareness among famers. He also directed officials to arrange machinery and equipment for organic and natural farming at every RBK. He instructed officials to ensure a better price for organic and natural farming products.

Officials informed the chief minister that they have almost completed land acquisition for construction of godowns. As many as 1,165 godowns will be constructed and work has started at 278 locations. Equipment for measuring weight and moisture are being made available, they added.

During the review on agricultural machinery, tools and equipment for farmers under the YSR Yantra Seva scheme, officials informed the chief minister that 3,497 units have been made available for farmers. They said the government has been setting up seeds and millet primary processing centres at 33 locations on the basis of parliamentary constituencies and these centres will be ready from the kharif 2022 season. The centre are expected to benefit farmers who cultivate cereals and pulses.

Officials said processing will help farmers get better prices and improve the quality of products. They added that raw materials will be provided for secondary processing units and those in related businesses.
