Developers of Cuckoo's Nest lands in Tallaght apply to remove pub re-development again

Developers of the Cuckoo's Nest lands in Tallaght are once again attempting to amend planning permission that includes the construction of a new pub.

Legendstand Ltd have applied for permission to change the plans and remove the pub completely.

But they were already met by a petition from residents in Kilnamanagh and the new Temple Woods estate on a previous attempt to remove the re-development of the famed pub earlier this year.

The protests led to the developer withdrawing its application for amendments to the plans.

The plans, if approved, will see the current extension demolished and replaced with three and four storey building built to the side and rear of the current pub.

The original front part of the Cuckoo's Nest will be retained, and a cafe and 19 apartments are being proposed.

The pub, which shut its doors in 2015, has been sorely missed by locals in Kilnamanagh and Tymon and other nearby estates.

A new housing development, Temple Woods, was recently completed on land surrounding the pub building.

The Temple Woods Residents Association have said that while the plans are an improvement, the pub is "dear" to the community.

According to locals, the developers did not consult with the community on their revised plans.

They said: "Although this is an improvement, it must be noted that it does not include for the previously approved retention of a working gastro pub, which is so dear to this community.

"In addition, it must be also noted that the inclusion of a cafe may just be a token gesture for now. In the past, some developers have allowed for such an inclusion to get past planning, but will then deem the cafe commercially nonviable, and in turn, turn the cafe into more apts, leaving the community without an amenity.

"Actual site plans of the proposed site are still to be seen and reviewed."

They continued: "Finally, it is with great regret that the developer Legendstand did not make an effort to consult or inform with the community again on any amendments to the plans to the site, as issues can and do get resolved when individuals or organisations are upfront about their plans and intentions.

"Clearly, it shows a total lack of respect toward the community."
