Developers mocked for building tiny 'garage with its own garage' home

A developer has been mocked online for planning to build a £260,000 house which one commenter called “a garage with its own garage”.

The three-bedroom house in St Austell contains a lower ground floor, ground floor, and a first floor.

But sized at just between 3.79mx6.31m and 5.81mx8.75m and featuring very few windows, it has attracted mockery online, reports Cornwall Live.

A Twitter account dedicated to lampooning weird and wonderful developments tweeted: “I noticed the D gang down at Toyland were bored sh**less one Friday afternoon.

"Thinking what the f**k, let’s see how little internal light & external joy we can get away with. Hey presto, yours for nearly 300 bag of sand! #Sh**planning.”

Would you live in the tiny home? Let us know in the comments below.

The picture got a lot of attention.

User @harden19971 wrote: “I'm sure I have a book with that as Noddy's house. Absolutely bang on, apart from lack of his car parked outside.”

On its website the developer, Devonshire homes, wrote: "A split-level home with a spacious living and dining area on the lower ground floor that opens onto the garden.

"All three bedrooms are well-proportioned, one of which is located on the first floor."

One user wrote: “Are they using Minecraft instead of CAD?”

The house was compared to a fake house at a nuclear fallout testing site, a kennel, a garage and a toilet block.

“I see uncle Ted has made some improvements,” said user @cookDaddy5.

The building plans show a living room and dining area on the lower ground floor, two bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor and a roof bedroom at the top.

The detached house is in the Gwallon Keas development in St Austell, built by Devonshire Homes.

In a statement the developer said: “We have received a considerable amount of interest in the Trethowel house style and this plot is now reserved. It is a two and a half storey, spacious house over 1,100sq ft.

“This individual property is set within a large plot and offers a generous sized open plan living dining area on the lower ground floor, with French doors opening onto the large garden at the rear and side of the property, all of which is not shown in the front elevation CGI.

“The attached drawings of the rear and side elevations of the Trethowel give a clearer indication of the overall look and feel of this house.

“We look forward to continuing to help house hunters find their ideal home at Gwallon Keas, St. Austell.”
