Developer welcomes PM's push to scrap gas boilers

An East Midlands housing developer has welcomed the Prime Minister's push to scrap gas boilers in favour of air source heating.

Boris Johnson announced last week that the government will give grants of £5,000 to people who replace old boilers with air source heating, as part of the UK's net zero pledge.

Springbourne Homes boss Adrian Burr says the company has already turned to Valliant air source heat pumps, installing them at the firm's Hornsey Rise development near Market Bosworth in Leicestershire.

The chairman said: "I agree with Boris, gas boilers have had their day and, as we battle climate change, their harmful emissions make it impossible to justify installing them anymore.

"Air source heating is definitely the future and I'm sure Springbourne has now fitted its last gas boiler.

"We closely monitor all the advances in the building industry to see if there are areas where we can make meaningful changes to the way we work to reduce our carbon footprint and be even more energy conscious.

"That's why we've switched to air source heating - it's such a cleaner, more responsible way of heating our homes."

Springbourne Homes - which relocated to eco-friendly offices at The Marina in Market Bosworth last year - says 18 of the 19 new luxury homes at its Hornsey Rise site have already been sold or reserved. Prices range from £750,000 to £1.4 million.
