A developer behind plans to build a new motorway services on greenbelt land in Solihull has announced it will appeal a council decision to reject the project.
At its meeting last month, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council's planning committee threw out two separate applications for services on the M42.
Applegreen was hoping to win consent for a new site near junction four in Stratford Road, Shirley, while Extra MSA is behind designs for new services in Catherine de Barnes between junctions five and six.
Dublin-based Applegreen has now submitted a notice confirming it will appeal this rejection by Solihull Council which would set the stage for a 16-day public inquiry overseen by a planning inspector.
There is no indication yet that Extra MSA will follow suit and also appeal the rejection of its application which had actually been recommended for approval by borough council officers.
Both schemes were refused over fears that allowing either one would do considerable damage to the greenbelt.
People who wrote to oppose or support Applegreen's original application will be able to submit their comments once the appeal process is formally under way.
