Devastating image shows impact Storm Arwen is still having on Scots country parks

This is the devastating aftermath of Storm Arwen as huge numbers of trees through the country have been flattened by massive gales.

Council chiefs in Aberdeenshire have warned that country parks at Haddo and Aden are still unsafe due to the damage caused by Arwen last month.

At the end of November, Scotland was battered by winds of up to 90mph and flurries of snow which left thousands without heat or power for up to a week.

Police urged many not to take to the roads in parts of the country due to the dangerous weather.

Now Aberdeenshire council has told locals that there are still areas of danger due to trees falling or being left in a treacherous position due to the weather.

A statement tonight from Aberdeenshire Council reads: "Heading into the weekend and indeed the festive period, we would again reminded people of the dangers of fallen and hung-up trees across the region in the aftermath of Storm Arwen.

"It is important to note that both our country parks at Aden and Haddo currently remain closed owing to the significant tree damage and our teams continue to assess these and many other areas across Aberdeenshire for future felling operations.

"Public safety is our over-riding concern and we would urge people to take notice of our closures and stay away from areas where there are trees down - our drone captured this image showing just some of the damage inflicted at Haddo.

"In the meantime, a visit to one of our stunning beaches for a bracing walk might just be the order of the day!"
