Devastating house fire 'started deliberately' as neighbours hear 'manic screaming'

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed that a man was which went up in flames last night.

Firefighters were called to the scene on Stonedene Court, in Heckmondwike, shortly after 4am this morning after a semi-detached house was engulfed by a huge fire.

Two crews from Dewsbury and a third from Cleckheaton attended, but all four occupants - including girls aged 11 and 16 - had to escape through windows as flames quickly spread throughout the property.

The 17-year-old male has been taken to hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

A woman who lives nearby told LeedsLive that it was 'obviously an attack'.

Katie, who did not wish to give her surname, lives nearby and said: "I just woke up about four o’clock for people screaming for their lives.

'People have said that maybe it’s been petrol bombed or deliberately started'

"They were just screaming ‘help’ and ‘get me out’.

"Everyone got out then the house carried on going up in flames.

"I think obviously it’s an attack. It’s not caused by a natural thing.

"A lot of people have said that maybe it’s [been] petrol bombed or deliberately started."
