Devastating fire rips through former Scots bingo hall as nearby flats evacuated

Firefighters have battled a blaze which tore through an old bingo hall.

Emergency services have evacuated nearby buildings after reports of the fire on Queen Street, Forfar at around 2pm.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Services said that six appliances were at the scene.

Road closures have been put in place in the area and officers urged people to avoid the area.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We are currently in attendance at a building fire on Queen Street in Forfar along with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“Local road closures are in place and we would ask people to avoid the area at the present time.

“Some neighbouring properties have been evacuated as a precaution while emergency services deal with the incident.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 1.58pm on Sunday, November 29 to reports of a fire within a commercial building on Queen Street, Forfar, Angus.

“Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and several specialist resources and firefighters are working to extinguish the flames.

“Crews will remain in attendance for some time.”
