'Devastating blow' as polymer solutions firm Victrex cuts 79 jobs from Lancashire headquarters

A world-leading supplier of polymer solutions has announced it is to cut almost 80 jobs from its Lancashire headquarters.

Staff of Thornton-Cleveleys-based Victrex were told on Thursday that the company wants to make 79 redundancies across operations by October.

Union GMB has decribed the move as a "devastating blow", and vowed to "fight tooth and nail" to secure the best possible deal for its members.

Stephen Boden, GMB Regional Organiser, said: “This is a hammer blow for manufacturing in the North West – and the UK as a whole.

“The decision to restructure manufacturing within the company in this capacity is devastating news for GMB members and their families.

“Members should have no fear that we will work closely with affected members to mitigate compulsory job losses. We will fight tooth and nail to secure the best possible deal through the consultation period.”

Working mainly in the aerospace and automotive industries, the firm, a constituent of the FTSE 250, describes itself as a world leader in high-performance polymer solutions.

Based near Blackpool, it employs around 900 people, and aims to help manufacturers overcome complex design and engineering challenges.

Victrex was contacted for a comment by BusinessLive.
