Devastating blaze at Land Rover and Jaguar showroom leaves 'car graveyard' - police are investigating

These eerie pictures show the burnt out wreckage of a number of luxury cars following a dramatic early morning blaze.

The Guy Salmon Land Rover and Jaguar showroom in Stockport looked more like a 'car graveyard' in the aftermath of the fire this morning.

The scorched building behind the cars showed the devastation caused by the blaze - which police are investigating.

Explosions could be heard as the fire tore through the showroom just after midnight today.

Dramatic video footage showed the sky lit up in orange as the flames engulfed the building.

Photos showed scores of emergency service vehicles at the scene near the M60 as firefighters battled the flames.

A number of people living in the area tweeted pictures and videos.

Billowing plumes of smoke could be seen for miles.

A fire service spokesman said: "It was a car showroom involved in the fire. We were called at 12.30am this morning, to a fire involving a number of vehicles and a building, approximately 50m by 20m."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service tweeted about the fire at 1.30am.

They urged residents to keep their doors and windows closed.

They said: "Our crews are currently dealing with a fire at an industrial estate on Bailey Road, Stockport.

Police confirmed they are investigating the cause of the fire along with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

An investigation will be launched today, a fire service spokesman said.

Police were pictured at the scene and the road remained taped off by 8am.

Crime scene tape blocked off a footpath nearby.
