Devastated West Lothian brother of Joel McDiarmid urges mental health talks after tragedy

The brother of tragic Joel McDiarmid has said his family has been left "utterly devastated" after police confirmed they had found a body in the search for the missing 28-year-old.

Heartbroken Ben described the ordeal as a "nightmare" after police confirmed the discovery on Sunday, December 6.

A major search was launched for Joel following his disappearance from his home in Boghall on November 17.

Officers say formal identification is yet to take place but Ben, 26, issued a rallying cry for those struggling with their mental health to speak up and get help if they are ever "feeling down".

He added: "On Sunday my family’s nightmare reached the conclusion we feared so deeply. We are utterly devastated to have lost our wonderful brother/son.

"Thank you to everyone for their support. If you ever feel down, please talk to someone. #MentalHealth#SuicidePrevention."

Tributes have poured in for Joel, with pals left 'heartbroken' by the news.

One person said: “Saddened to be reading this and absolutely heartbreaking news for his family. Rest easy.”

Another wrote: “Not the result we were all hoping for, but at least the family now have an ending. Rest in peace, Joel xx”
