'Devastated' The Voice UK coach Olly Murs storms off set after new 'block' twist

A brand new twist on The Voice UK this year means the coaches can block each other from turning for a singer, should there be any fierce competition between the judges.

And plenty of viewers thought it was the perfect addition to spice up the show, as coaches normally have to grovel to try to persuade a singer to choose them.

But now they can press their button once each in the whole series, to stop one of the other coaches even getting a look in.

However, some fans thought it was cruel as it could prevent some of the singers from working with their favourite judge, perhaps a lifelong icon for them.

The block button was used for the first time during Jeremy Levif's performance.

As Olly Murs tried to turn his chair for him, Tom Jones slammed his finger on the block button several times.

But it was revealed afterwards that will.i.am had already pressed it and blocked Olly from being able to claim Jeremy as one of his team members.

"I am devastated I have been blocked," said Olly.

"Just discard me, I am out of the way," he said, as he waved goodbye and pretended to storm off.

Jeremy revealed he would have picked Olly, as he is already a huge fan, but without that option he chose will.i.am.

One viewer wrote: "THE BLOCK BUTTON ON #THEVOICEUK IS THE FUNNIEST THING EVER".

"I think the block button is an interesting feature #ThevoiceUK," penned another.

"THE FIRST BLOCK and from Sir Tom iconic," gushed a third.

"THE BLOCK BUTTON HAS BEEN USED. THIS IS WHAT I AM HERE FOR!" cheered a fourth.

But others hated it, as one wrote: "This years new block thing is terrible, spoiling peoples dream to work with the people they've always wanted to #thevoiceuk ".

Another agreed: "I don't like the block button @thevoiceuk.

"Feel like it'll be entertaining viewing but a bit sh*t for the person auditioning who might not be able to get the judge they want...bad idea...".

* The Voice UK continues next Saturday at 8:30pm on ITV
