Devastated student desperate to track down stolen sentimental necklace which belonged to grandmother

A devastated student has spoken of her heartbreak after a sentimental necklace belonging to her late grandmother was taken during a burglary at her home.

The Durham University student, who wishes to remain anonymous, is speaking out in the desperate hope the priceless jewellery can be located.

She returned to the house in Durham city with her three housemates late on Thursday, January 28, to discover they had been burgled.

The police were called, and officers checked the property, but it is believed anyone inside may have been disturbed by the housemates returning home.

The house had been ransacked and the woman, who is in her early 20s, said her room was in a particularly bad state with items thrown across the room and boxes and drawers emptied out.

Several items were taken in the burglary, some of which have been returned, however the woman is desperate to find a necklace that belonged to her grandma.

She said: “This is the only thing I have left of her and I can’t put into words the loss I feel by not having it with me.

“This isn’t just a necklace to me, but a memory and therefore it is irreplaceable.

“That night was the first time in months I wasn’t wearing it. I was devastated when I found out it was missing, as it was the first thing I looked for.

“I have lost other items, but this is the one I really want back. I am just hoping someone might have come across it and I will get it back.”

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the necklace or has any information that might be of use is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101.
