Devastated Sinead O'Connor's message to son Shane's father in emotional Twitter post
Sinead O'Connor has offered a heartfelt condolences to her late son's father as they are united in grief by their troubled teen's tragedy.
The 55-year-old musician shared her latest post to Twitter after her 17-year-old son Shane went missing from hospital in Tallaght, South Dublin on Thursday before being found to have taken his own life.
The distraught mum, who is best-known for his chart-topping hit Nothing Compares 2U, has since shared multiple messages to Twitter as she is flooded with raw emotion by her son's death.
In one of them she praises her ex-husband musician Donny Lunny, 74, who was Shane's father and ''adored him''.
She posted on Twitter: "Also like to thank Shane’s father, Donal Lunny. You did you best too, Donal. And Shane adored you. And I will always remember how sweet you have been to him. You have been a lovely father. I am so sorry for your loss."
Following the devastating loss, Sinead tweeted that Shane had “decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God”.
The mum-of-four has previously told her teenager to “do the right thing” and present himself to a Garda station after an appeal was launched.
But officers in Ireland said they recovered a body in the Bray area of Wicklow on Friday January 8th and called off the search.
In an emotional tribute she wrote: "My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.
“May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example.
“My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
Shane was the second eldest of Sinead's four children, along with Jake Reynolds, Roisin Waters and Yeshua Francis Neil Bonadio.
Sinead also paid tribute to her late son with a Bob Marley song which she dedicated to Shane, describing him as her 'blue-eye baby' and the 'light of my life'.
