Devastated parents' heartbreak as baby dies after treatment for 'red mark'

A bereaved father has told how he has been plunged into despair at not knowing how his baby son died, nearly six months after his death.

Dechland Cyrus, aged three months and two days, was sadly found dead on the morning of May 14 by his mum Suzanne Clarke at her home.

Baby Dechland, who was found dead at a Huddersfield property, had been born healthy apart from having to spend his first few days in an incubator, Yorkshire Live reports.

His father Chris Cyrus, 56, said: "Everything was fine, everyone was so happy.

"But a couple of weeks or so after his birth he developed a little red mark above the left-hand side of his lip.

"I was concerned because it was swelling and so Suzanne, my girlfriend, took him to her GP's surgery. They said not to worry about it but I was not happy because I thought it was too big.

"I think it was the next morning when the cot downstairs was covered in his blood. Suzanne called an ambulance and he was taken to Calderdale.

"They put some kind of glue on it and sent him home. But a week or so later it happened again and she took him back to the hospital.

"On Thursday, May 13, they examined him and said he needed an operation the next day at 10am and sent him home.

"The next morning he was dead at his mother's home nearby and to this day I don't know why.

"I knew he was dead. I said to Suzanne there's nothing we can do, he has gone. I miss my little boy so much, I had such a short time with him.

"I have not got a clue how he died and I got fobbed off when I tried to find out.

"I have laid him to rest at the cemetery near Castle Hill and I don't know how he has died.

"I took three weeks off work, I was in my bedroom alone with my thoughts, I didn't even open my door and I am still stressed out about it because I don't have any answers.

"All I wanted to know was how he died. People ask me what happened and I have to say I don't know how he died."

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust has been approached for comment.
