'Devastated' Micah Richards reacts to Sergio Aguero Man City exit

Micah Richards says he is "devastated" by Sergio Aguero leaving Manchester City at the end of the season.

It was announced on Monday evening that Aguero will leave City once his contract expires at the campaign, putting an end to a remarkable 10-year spell at the club.

Aguero leaves behind a unique legacy, with his legendary status at the club guaranteed thanks to his outstanding exploits - scoring 257 goals in 384 appearances and leaving as City's all-time top goalscorer.

Richards played with Aguero between 2011 and 2015 and, speaking to BBC Five Live Sport, he revealed his sadness over Aguero's exit.

“I was in a great mood to be honest and it’s took the wind out of me," an emotional Richards said.

“I’m devastated, it’s devastating news for someone who is arguably the best ever striker to grace the Premier League.

“I think him, Shearer and Henry would be my top three and for this to happen, I could see grumbles of this happening at the start of the season.

“I know he’s had his problems with his knee and what-not, but even when he’s been fit he’s not been starting.

“Normally, they would give him 60 or 70 minutes then take him off to get him to full speed but he’s been on the bench for a lot of games."

Aguero has struggled for fitness this season, playing just 454 minutes across all competitions for City, but regardless, his contribution and achievements at the club since 2011 have been simply extraordinary.

It's hoped City fans will be permitted to attend Etihad Stadium when City play Everton on the last day of the season to bid their farewells - something Aguero surely deserves.
