Devastated friends and family raise £7,500 to give Sorrelle Bamford 'the send-off she deserves'

Devastated friends, family and well-wishers have raised more than £7,500 overnight to give much-loved mum Sorrelle Bamford "the send-off she deserves".

The 38-year-old mother-of-four was reported missing at 9.55am on Tuesday after she was last seen at an address on Chesters Gardens in Crawcrook .

But a two-day search came to a tragic end on Thursday afternoon when her body was found near the River Tyne in Wylam .

In the wake of their loss, friends and family started an online fundraising page to give Sorrelle "the send-off she deserves", as well as "supporting her family through this incredibly difficult time".

The JustGiving page, which spoke of Sorrelle's tragic mental health battle, has raised more than £7,000 in 15 hours - smashing it's £5,000 target.

It read: "Earlier this week, we were deeply saddened by the disappearance of Crawcrook mother of 4, Sorrelle Bamford.

"Sorrelle experienced mental health issues which declined in recent months. She battled hard with the issues she faced along with the help of her family and friends.

"However, on Tuesday 23rd April, she disappeared from the family home and went missing to be later found on Thursday 25th April. Her body was found at a location on the Tyne Valley after 48 hours of searching, she was identified by her family.

"We would like to help support Sorrelle's family through this incredibly difficult time, giving her the send-off she deserves.

Superintendent Peter Bent of Northumbria Police , who had been leading the search, said on Thursday: "We have had a large number of officers deployed across the area since Sorrelle's disappearance.

"There has been a great response from our public appeals and I want to thank everyone who has shared the appeals in the media or on social media.

"Sadly we discovered the body of a woman this afternoon and, although formal identification is yet to take place, we do believe that the woman may be Sorrelle. "This is awful news for her family and we will continue to support them at this difficult time and we would ask the public to respect their privacy.”
