Devastated Frenkie de Jong reacts to learning Ajax are out of Champions League

Frenkie de Jong may have left Ajax to join Barcelona in the summer, but it seems the midfielder still has a soft spot for his former club.

The Dutch international was a key man for Erik ten Hag's side last term as they made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Champions League before being knocked out by Premier League outfit Tottenham .

The 22-year-old's form last term led to him swapping the Eredivisie for La Liga in the summer in a deal said to be worth around €75m.

De Jong featured for Barcelona on Tuesday night as they secured a 2-1 at Inter in Europe's premier club competition, but his attentions turned elsewhere at the full-time whistle.

Looking up to a screen at the San Siro showing the results, the former Ajax man could be seen how his old team got on in their must-win match against Valencia.

The Dutchman's face, though, can be seen visibly dropping once he realised the Amsterdam outfit had in fact lost and were knocked out of the Champions League.

The reaction earned praise from some football fans online, with one commenting under a clip of the video: "Loved him with respect."

Others, though, were not as kind with another adding: "Aww if he was so attached, he shouldn’t have left Ajax!"

De Jong has been a fixture in Barcelona's team since making his summer move, with boss Ernesto Valverde utilising the youngster in every game so far.

The 22-year-old played a key role for Barcelona as they made it through the Champions League group stages unbeaten to qualify for the knockout rounds.

The former Ajax man has also been well involved in La Liga too, helping Barca to the top of the table though only points difference separates them from fierce rivals Real Madrid .
