Devastated family say 23-year-old teacher killed in crash with cement lorry was 'loving and kind-hearted'

Tribute has been paid to a woman who has died in hospital six days after a crash in west Wales.

Beca Mai Richards, who was 23, was involved in a collision between a car and a lorry which happened on Friday evening near Penblewin in Pembrokeshire.

Miss Richards, from the village of Llangain outside Carmarthen, was airlifted to a Cardiff hospital in a Wales Air Ambulance helicopter with serious injuries.

Police confirmed on Thursday evening that she had passed away from her injuries.

Her family has paid tribute to someone who "always cared for others”, and revealed that her organs would be donated to improve or save the lives of others.

Her family said: "We are completely devastated in losing Beca. She was such a loving and kind-hearted daughter, sister, friend and teacher and someone who always cared for others.

"We take great pride that, as a donor, Beca will provide a better life for others as her final gift. As a family, we thank everyone, especially the intensive care unit and Wales Air Ambulance, for their support and care during these past few days. We would now like some time to grieve in private.”

Her family is being supported by specially trained officers.

Police are continuing to appeal for information after the fatal crash.

It happened at around 5pm on Friday on the A478 near Penblewin and involved a black Vauxhall Corsa - which Miss Richards was driving - and a blue Daf cement mixer lorry. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police either online, by e-mailing 101@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk, or by calling 101.
