Devastated family pay tribute to 'much loved son' who died after van smashed into Scots house

A man who died after crashing into a house on the A199 has been named as 48-year-old William French, know as Billy.

Emergency services raced to Abbey Toll, near Haddington, on Saturday evening just before 8pm after a Vauxhall Combo van collided with a house.

Sadly William, the driver and sole occupant of the van, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His devastated family paid tribute and described him as a "much loved son, brother and uncle" who would be "sorely missed" by his loved ones.

In a statement his family said: "Billy was a much loved son, brother and uncle who will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

"The family would like to be left to grieve in private at this difficult time."

No one from within the home was injured in the crash.

The property was cordoned off with a metal fence and traffic cones following the incident as piles of rubble remained outside of the home.

Police previously appealed for anyone who witnessed the vehicle travelling eastbound on the A199 to get in touch.
