Emotional tributes have been paid to a hero doctor who died from COVID-19 in a Dublin hospital.
Dr Syed Waqqar Ali Shah sadly passed away on Tuesday after testing positive for coronavirus.
It is understood the brave medic died after a long battle with the killer virus at the Mater Hospital in Dublin.
Prominent Islamic scholar Dr Umar Al Qadri led the tributes to the brave doctor, who had spent three months in intensive care.
He said: "Dr Waqar Ali, a Muslim Doctor working in Ireland, was in the ICU since April and sadly passed away few hours ago.
"Healthcare workers are at the front fighting against Covid-19. They are the real Heroes!"
The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland added: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Dr Waqar Ali.
"Our deepest condolences from all in the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland to his family, friends and colleagues."
While the Irish Association for Emergency Medicine called on all its members to hold a minute's silence in honour of their tragic colleague on Thursday.
They wrote on Twitter: "To mark the death of Dr Syed Waqar Ali Shah, our colleague, IAEM asks all members to pause at 12 noon tomorrow Thurs 23 July, to remember this excellent EM doctor and true gentleman. Our deepest condolences to his family."
